here's where i talk about one of my most recent obsessions, Digimon! It's currently one of my top 3 interests and should hopefully stay that way for a good long while! (still very much a wip like the rest of this site fghgfh)
Now, if you're unfamiliar with Digimon but know Pokemon, chances are you may have heard or thought of it as a Pokemon ripoff, but as any Digmon fan will tell you,
that's bullshit.
However, that doesn't mean Digimon isn't related to any monster collecting franchises! You see, Digimon started as virtual pets. But not just any virtual pets, they were
created as the masculine equivalent of Tamagotchis! And as you'll see later, both franchises have quite a few similarites. As of the day I'm writing this(February 15, 2023),
Digimon currently has several manga, vpets, anime series, and video games, some of which I'll talk about here!
The first ever Digimon vpet was called the Digital Monster Ver. 1, and was released in June of 1997, with the manga oneshot C'mon Digimon releasing in September that same year. In the following year, the Pendulum 1.0 vpet was released as well as the manga Digimon Adventure V-Tamer. But the most recognizable piece of Digimon media would be released much later.
In March of 1999, the Digimon Adventure pilot and anime series were released in Japan; the series would later reach America in August that same year, and a good amount of kids fell in love with the series and are still fans to this day! I, however, was not one of them.
The first time I remember seeing anything Digimon related was a vhs my mom got of Digimon: The Movie when I was at least like 12. I remember loving it but not remembering too much. The next thing i remember is being at a relative's house and catching the episode of Adventure where Takeru and Patamon have a tug-of-war match against Elecmon and thinking "oh that's nice :)". After that, my only exposure/experience with Digimon was the occaisional meme/comparison to Pokemon. Funnily enough, when I was younger I actually thought that Digimon and Pokemon took place in the same world due to Digimon: The Movie showing them inside a computer. In my mind, Pokemon were in the real world and Digimon in the Digital world and you could reach it by simply going into a computer.
